On the 16th of July 2021, from 8pm to 9pm, the Leo Club of UOW Malaysia KDU, organised an online google meet to host a repurposing project titled, Project Repurpose. The organising committee comprised two volunteers from the UOWMKDU Leo Club, Ng Chi Mei and Bernice Tang. They were joined by two eager participants from BAC’s own Leo Club, Schumeichel Woo Seng Hui (President, Leo Club of BAC) and Ann Celia Anthony.
The online event started with a 20-minute welcoming ceremony and introductory session, where those involved got the opportunity to get acquainted and settle any necessary preparatory work and briefings. Following this was the actual compost making session, which took up the remaining time of the brief but informative meet. During this session, the two BAC Leos that attended, learnt the step-by-step process on how to make compost at home.
A simple Google search will tell you that about a third of household waste is compostable. Composting at home not only reduces the garbage that goes to landfills, minimising environmental footprint, but is also an efficient way to repurpose organic matter into plant food and fertiliser. By feeding your soil with your own compost, you can rest assured that food grown in your own backyard will be free of chemical fertilisers and additives.
The BAC Leos expressed that it was a surprisingly fun experience and pointed out that learning how to compost at home is indeed a very meaningful skill to have, especially in this day and age. Both the organising committee and the participants deemed the online meet successful!
